Posted on 01 Aug 2006
An ambulatory recording device that is both comfortable and unobtrusive can capture a sleep, cardiac, or neurologic event in a patient's home environment.

The Trex ambulatory recorder monitoring system, manufactured by Xltek (Oakville, Ontario, Canada), is the world's smallest, lightweight multi-modality ambulatory electroencephalogram (EEG) recorder. More...
It is suited for pediatric patients, and can be easily worn on the body without causing any discomfort. The system operates on two AA batteries and has a storage capacity of up to 96 hours of data recording.

The Trex features 24 referential AC input channels, four differential channels, and four DC channels, plus oximetry data, and patients can mark an event themselves by pressing a button. The system provides both EEG and sleep functionality data. The Trex recorder also easily connects to a PC via universal serial bus (USB) cable, and it can upload 24 hours worth of data in less than six minutes. The system operates on the proprietary NeuroWorks software solution.

The Trex system received the Frost & Sullivan (Palo Alto, CA, USA) 2006 Product-Innovation-of-the-Year Award.
