Critical Care Ventilation During Transport

A portable ventilator allows seamless transfer of patients between leak-tolerant, non-invasive, and invasive modes without having to switch machines. More...

The iVent201 disaster preparedness ventilator is a lightweight, battery-powered, critical care ventilator that is both transportable and versatile. The portable ventilator can monitor oxygen delivery and the level of oxygen in the blood through pulse oximetry. A quick start capability allows the iVent201 to be set up in seconds even by entry-level personnel. At the same time, the device provides comprehensive advanced diagnostic features including loops, 14 parameters of trending, graphics, and data recall. Adaptive flow and easy exhale features keep the patient from fighting the ventilator by letting their needs spontaneously determine flow rate.

The ventilator has the capability to limit the delivery pressure of a volume breath, a feature that allows the user to set a pressure limit (the pressure a breath will not exceed). This ensures the pressures will remain low enough to protect the lung from barotrauma. The system weighs 10 kg, including a self-contained turbine and an internal battery.

The iVent201 is a product of VersaMed (Pearl River, NY, USA). The system was recently selected for the New York City (NY, USA) pandemic ventilator stockpile pilot program, after previously being selected by various military forces around the world, including the U.S. Armed Forces and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

"VersaMed's mission is to develop ICU [intensive care unit]-grade ventilators for use in disaster environments, and the iVent is the most reliable, easy to use, battle-tested ventilator on the market,” said Kevin Plihal, vice president of marketing and business development at VersaMed.
