Transportable telemedicine equipment kits will aid rescue teams at disaster sites by linking victims to immediate emergency care.

The new telemedicine kits include the AMD-2500s general examination camera, the AMD-3550 smartsteth digital electronic stethoscope, the AMD-2015 ENT/Otoscope, the AMD-3920 digital spirometer, the AMD-2020 Direct Opthalmoscope, AMD-5500 SmartProbe ultrasound, the AMD-3875 12 lead interpretive ECG for PC, and the AMD image management system, a software program to organize individual patients, conditions, and screenshots while at the emergency scene.

Using the various components of the kit, healthcare providers in the field have the ability to send images of inner ear, nose, and throat (ENT) damage, trauma to extremities, soft tissue injuries, captured ultrasound images, electrocardiograms, digital lung capacity reports, and heart or lung sounds. The specialist in the field can then send the information to a medical specialist via satellite, internet, or Integrated Services Digital Networks (ISDNs), providing an evaluation and/or consultation for remote victims using live videoconferencing or "store and forward” applications. The kits are a product of AMD Telemedicine (North Chelmsford, MA, USA)

"Our new deployable kit will speed the execution and management of trauma services and clinical emergency care for those who need it most,” said Steve Normandin, president of AMD. "The availability and use of telemedicine at the disaster site will also foster medical expertise capability for emergency response personnel.”
