Liquefaction System Ensures Oxygen Supply

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 08 Nov 2007
A lightweight, long during, and quick-to-fill portable oxygen system provides a ready supply of liquid oxygen for patients requiring oxygen therapy, such as those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). More...

The VIAspir Personal Oxygen System, comprised of a portable and a liquefier, features a proprietary algorithm that responds to a patient's breath rate, called SmartDose. The technology delivers more oxygen when the patient needs it most, supporting optimal oxygen saturation levels and thus promoting activity. The VIAspire Oxygen portable is available in three sizes: the VIAspire Portable 300 weighs 1.8 kilograms (filled) and lasts approximately 6-8 hours; the VIAspire Portable 600 weighs 2.7 kilograms (filled) and lasts 11-14 hours, and the largest portable, the VIAspire Portable 1200, delivers oxygen via a silent and continuous-flow mechanism for nocturnal use.

The oxygen portable container fills faster and lasts longer than transfilled gas portables, since it docks to the VIAspire oxygen liquefier, eliminating frequent and expensive deliveries of liquid oxygen. The liquefier, which creates the liquid oxygen in the home from the patient's oxygen concentrator, generates a ready supply of liquid oxygen always available for the patient. The VIAspire oxygen system is a product of Inspired Technologies (North Huntingdon, PA, USA).

"The entire VIAspire Personal Oxygen System is designed to give COPD patients the confidence to lead independent, active lives,” said Dan Easley, President and CEO of Inspired Technologies. "Unlike other systems that focus on oxygen conservation, the VIAspire system focuses on oxygen saturation. Patients don't feel breathless, so they stay active - and that's better for them.”
