Humidification Device Conditions Gas Flow for Nasal Cannulas

Posted on 19 Aug 2008
A new high-flow humidification system integrates gas blending, flow control, and humidification technology into one device for the optimal conditioning of nasal cannula inspired gases.

The Precision Flow gas delivery device is a high flow heat and humidification device for the non-invasive delivery of inspired gas flows from 1 to 40 liters per minute. More...
The technology controls simultaneous regulation of the gas temperature, humidity, flow rate, and oxygen percentage, without discomfort to the patient. Key features include a detachable, disposable patient circuit; a patient delivery tube with a patented triple lumen design in which air is surrounded by two water filled channels; and a vapor transfer cartridge with core humidification technology that allows molecular water vapor to pass into the gas stream, preventing contact between water source and breathing gas.

The Precision Flow aids clinicians in delivering maximum respiratory assistance without iatrogenic effects and increased costs. A single button control allows setting of flow, oxygen percentage, and temperature values. A color–coded, uncluttered display for alarms and indicators, rapid set up and circuit priming, and battery backup aid in maintaining reliability and straightforward maintenance. Other features of the system include a built-in oxygen blender and an oxygen sensor. The Precision Flow is manufactured by Vapotherm (Stevensville, MD, USA), and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

"The Vapotherm brand has become synonymous with the category of high flow oxygen therapy. Precision Flow illustrates our continued commitment to raising the technology standard and delivering to the respiratory community the state of the art in noninvasive respiratory assistance,” said Robert Storey, president and CEO of Vapotherm.

"Vapotherm has been utilized with great success in our neonatal unit. The new device offers our staff the same high-flow therapy benefits, with improved ease of use and performance features,” said Eleri Adams, M.D., of the John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford, England).
