The sheath introducer is supplied with a compatible vessel dilator that snaps securely into the sheath introducer's hub. The device is also equipped with a sideport attached to a segment of extension tubing, terminating in a 3-way stopcock. The sheath hub itself contains an integral hemostasis valve and suture ring. The sheath introducer includes a marker tip to easily identify the exact placement of the device and an angled, large-bore side arm for enhanced removal of blood clots. The sheath introducer is packaged in a holster that keeps all components secure, as well as allowing them to be flushed while still in the holster. The device is marketed in packs of five each, and is available with or without an appropriately sized guide wire and needle; the optional stainless steel guide wires are double ended, with a floppy 3 mm J on one end and a floppy straight termination on the other. The Prelude Short Sheath Introducer is a product of Merit Medical Systems (South Jordan, UT, USA, and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

"Our new, internally manufactured product has the features and benefits needed for us to become a market leader,” said Fred Lampropoulos, chairman and CEO of Merit. "We believe this product will allow us to compete worldwide with substantially improved margins in a market that continues to be an area of focus for Merit.”
