New Bone Paste Material

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 16 Mar 2004
A new demineralized bone matrix (DBM)-based allograft bone paste is based on a synthetic bioabsorbable polymer carrier technology. More...
The bone paste has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The polymer carrier technology was licensed by Exactech (Gainesville, FL, USA) from Genzyme Corp. (Cambridge, MA, USA). Exactech develops and markets orthopedic implant devices, related surgical devices, and biologic materials used in the restoration of bones and joints that have deteriorated as a result of injury or disease, such as arthritis.

"This is an important addition to our growing line of biologic materials that will substantially broaden our market reach,” noted Bill Petty, chairman and CEO of Exactech. "It is also an important step in Exactech's strategy to increase focus on biologic solutions to orthopedic problems. The new bone paste represents a substantial growth opportunity for Exactech to add additional biologic products over the medium term.”
