Dense Cervical Allograft Promotes Speedy Healing

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 29 May 2007
A corticocancellous allograft provides structural integrity and dense cancellous bone to allow immediate perfusion and rapid healing.

The Connect II cervical structural allograft is produced from dense cancellous bone with a thick anterior cortical face to maximize compressive strength for optimal fusion. More...
The allograft is machined from the femoral head and other non-vertebral bone sources, and the fresh-frozen implant ensures optimal mechanical strength. Rapid perfusion and the cancellous matrix provide the structural and biologic conditions necessary for optimal healing.

The dimensions of allograft are 14 mm in width, 14 mm in length, and the heights vary from 5-10 mm. All Connect II product sizes utilize a 7° lordotic angulation that re-establishes sagittal alignment and provides for maximum graft-to-host bone surface area. The range of sizes and design provides optimal distraction, and permits customization to various patient specific needs, while the large graft-to-host bone surface contact area promotes excellent healing ability.

The Connect II cervical structural allograft spacer is manufactured by Alphatec (Carlsbad, CA, USA), and comes with proprietary cervical fusion instrumentation for maximum ease of use, procedural efficiency, and conformity with other products in the Alphatec cervical fusion product line.

"Allografts have a very strong following in the surgeon community due to their high success rates and ease of use, and our Connect II product provides an excellent matrix for rapid perfusion leading to successful patient outcomes, and we believe that it will become the allograft of choice for many surgeons,” said M. Ross Simmonds, senior vice president and chief operating officer (COO) of Alphatec.
