Locator Helps Plastic Surgeons Reposition Umbilici

The Umbilical Locator, developed by plastic surgeon Dr. Fardad Forouzanpour (Beverly Hills, CA, USA), is a small plastic shaped-disk that is sutured to the rectus fascia in the location of the original umbilicus. After completion of the surgical procedure and removal of the redundant tissue, the surgeon locates the Umbilical Locator by touch beneath the skin, removes it, and creates a new umbilicus in the correct position. The Umbilical Locator is being distributed through Innovative Med (Irvine, CA, USA).

Traditionally, during abdominoplasty, the surgeon makes an incision into the abdomen, and then manipulates the skin, tissue, and abdominal muscle. This manipulation of the abdomen often requires relocation of the umbilicus, one of the most difficult and aesthetically significant parts of the surgery, since the surgeon has no way of being certain where the belly button once was.
