MRI Technology Set to Drastically Change with Lesser-Cost MRI Scans

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 05 Nov 2009
New technology is making magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans considerably less expensive using synchronized respiratory and cardiac motion. More...
The new device allows coronary MR angiographies (MRAs) to be performed in half the scan time with higher navigator efficiency.

This will allow many people to undergo MRA imaging at a significantly reduced cost, and allow insurance companies to screen insurance candidates very cost effectively. Using this method of synchronized scanning, throughput of patients using scanners partnered with this technology will effectively be doubled, greatly reducing MRI scan costs, and making the scans more tolerable for patients.

United Hayek Industries (Louisville, KY, USA) announced the release of the new device, called the Hayek MRI-RTX, which removes the time constraints of breath holding, and overcomes the limited efficiency of navigator imaging. It can also be used independently of the acquisition sequence to shorten scan times or increase image resolution. United Hayek is now working to make the technology compatible with a range of MRI scanners.

This technology could also be applied to many other types of MRI imaging. Wolf Hayek, president and CEO of United Hayek Industries, commented, "We are very proud of this proven new technology, which is set to vastly change the MRI landscape, making MRI scanning not only more efficient and affordable, but also significantly more tolerable. I believe that for MRI manufacturers to incorporate this technology will be essential. Given a choice of scanner, it is obvious that healthcare providers would clearly go for a scanner that is able to do twice the work of other scanners.”

United Hayek Medical is a world leader in biphasic cuirass ventilation (BCV) ventilation, focused on developing innovative medical technologies to improve the quality of life for patients.
