A unique and highly adjustable Mini Rail fixation system helps surgeons quickly achieve optimal placement in the bones of fixation "half" pins. More...

The SBi Mini Rail External Fixation System is designed for the fixation, compression, and distraction osteogenesis of small bones--such as the metacarpal and metatarsal bones--and is intended for use in many common procedures such as first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint arthrodesis and distraction, subtalar fusion, and Jones fracture management; the system is not intended for spinal use. The system also includes the instruments with which to implant the pins in the correct position, as well as tools to assemble the construct and connect the external components. The system also includes a tray for conveying and storing the system.

The external connecting components are made from medical grade aluminum and stainless steel; the implant pins themselves are made from implant grade 31 6LS stainless steel. All components are intended for single use only, and are supplied nonsterile. The SBi Mini Rail System is a product of Small Bone Innovations (Morrisville, PA, USA), and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

"The SBi Mini Rail System offers a versatile solution for small bone reconstruction and trauma,” said Guido LaPorta, D.P.M, chief of foot and ankle surgery at Community Medical Center (Scranton PA, USA). "The system's design allows it to be used as primary or complementary fixation in arthrodesis, osteotomy, bone lengthening, and fracture repair. The system's unique instrumentation allows us to employ the Mini-Rail System as an anatomically accurate and rigid construct.”
