A new line of reusable bladeless obturators can be easily reprocessed within the hospital, offering an efficient, longer lasting alternative to disposable devices.

The Weck line of reusable obturators is made of a durable one-piece stainless steel element that incorporates a unique bladeless asymmetrical tip that dissects through tissue while maintaining muscle integrity. More...
The reusable laparoscopic obturators are compatible with Weck Vista single-use cannula, and join the full line of Weck access devices to provide greater confidence, clarity, and control during general and advanced laparoscopic procedures. The Weck line of reusable obturators are products of Teleflex (Limerick, PA, USA), and have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“We are conscious of the patients’ needs and the challenges faced by surgeons in the operating room,” said Jay White, VP and general manager of the surgical division at Teleflex. “By expanding our line of access to include these new reusable obturators, Teleflex continue to affirm its commitment to addressing these needs and providing effective solutions that help enhance patient safety.”

Bladed trocar injury is the number one cause of complications in laparoscopic surgery. However, by eliminating blades and providing a tip that passes through tissue without cutting, asymmetrical dilating obturators avoid injury and leave a 58 % smaller defect than the most commonly used bladed instruments.
