Disposable Surgical Instruments Secure Medical Implants

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 21 Oct 2013
Single-procedure fixed-driver surgical instruments provide critical torque-limiting forces to secure orthopedic and other medical implants.

The Torque-Fast family of disposable instruments is designed for use in a full range of delicate to demanding procedures and implants, including trauma, craniomaxillofacial, small bone, extremities, spine, and general reconstruction. More...
The handles are available in various configurations and torque ranges, providing ease of use for operating room (OR) personnel, interchangeability with existing instruments, and an immediate alternative to costly and hard to maintain reusable devices. The Torque-Fast also reduces the threat of out-of-calibration torque and surgical site infection (SSI) from incomplete cleaning.

A key feature of all Torque-Fast instruments is the connector hub, which allows all existing standard and implant specific AO and ¼” [0.635 cm] square style instrument blades and drivers to be securely mated to the handle. This feature permits flexibility during surgical procedures, with one handle and torque setting securing multiple connector types and scores of safe and accurate actuations. The product family also includes an in-line adapter that can be attached to all popular variable speed surgical drills. The Torque-Fast family of disposable instruments is a product of ECA Medical Instruments (Thousand Oaks, CA, USA).

“Our Torque-Fast instruments offer precision torque and solve the pain implant manufacturers and hospitals suffer using expensive and hard to maintain reusable torque instruments,” said John Nino, president and CEO of ECA Medical Instruments. “Now they have an alternative. Our disposable instruments have the familiar feel and robust operation without the hefty price tag and life cycle costs of traditional solutions.”
