A novel endoscopic surgical stapler integrates advanced tissue reinforcement buttressing to provide additional tissue support. More...

The Endo GIA Reinforced Reload stapler combines the benefits of proprietary Tri-Staple technology with a preattached synthetic, porous, buttress material that provides additional support to fragile tissue being stapled and resected. The Tri-Staple reloads are designed to work in harmony with the natural properties of tissue to optimize performance, using a stepped cartridge face and three staggered rows of staples for graduated compression between the tissue and stapler, thus allowing greater perfusion into the staple line and the treatment of variable tissue thicknesses.

A fixed anvil and I-beam design incorporated into the Tri-Staple reloads results in improved staple line strength, leak resistance, and hemostasis. The Endo GIA Reinforced Reload stapler is a product of Covidien (Dublin, Ireland), and uses an advanced polymer buttressing material that is a version of NeoVeil felt, made by Gunze (Kyoto, Japan), which has been in clinical use in the Japanese market for more than 20 years.

“Covidien is committed to developing specialized solutions for our customers that enable better patient outcomes,” said Michael Tarnoff, MD, chief medical officer of Covidien. “This unique technology provides improved ease of use and reduced time in the operating room by eliminating extra steps, reducing procedure time, and providing surgeons with an integrated, clinically validated buttress material for added security at the staple line.”
