Photo-Rejuvenation Treatment for Skin

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 13 Apr 2003
A new treatment for reversing signs of photoaging or sun-induced spots uses broad spectrum intense pulsed light (IPL) to treat face, neck, chest, and hands. More...
The treatment has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Called D-Light SR, the treatment is virtually free of side effects and discomfort, according to the developer, Lumenis Ltd. (Pleasanton, CA, USA). A typical therapy program consists of four to seven procedures administered at three-week intervals. The treatment is designed to help reverse telangiectasias, broken capillaries, rosacea, hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, and age spots such as freckles.

IPL employs a broad spectrum of light energy in a range of wavelengths. It supplies high levels of light power in precision-measured pulses controlled down to a ten-thousandth of a second. IPL energy can be applied to subsurface skin layers for gentle and gradual improvement in a simplified and affordable treatment.

"There is a developing interest in anti-aging treatments that have minimum side effects and little-to-no downtime. Physicians are seeking tools that demonstrate proven clinical results and Lumenis is doing just that,” noted Dr. Robert Weiss, associate professor of dermatology, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (Baltimore, MD, USA).
