(Cleveland, OH, USA) has announced that the company has voluntarily discontinued the worldwide distribution of Adcon L and T/N gel because of a recall by the supplier of a raw material used in the gel's production.

The raw material was recalled because of particulates in the material from the aluminized paper lid liner. Gliatech has implemented quality procedures including preproduction inspection of this raw material and testing samples of the gel. However, until all the testing is completed, the company has elected to discontinue distribution. The supplier has not indicated to Gliatech any adverse event reports associated with the clinical use of the supplier's material. The gel products are used to inhibit postsurgical scarring and adhesions.

"Based on our analysis of this matter and a review of medical reports, we remain confident that Adcon gel is safe and provides significant clinical benefits to patients and surgeons,” stated Steven Basta, president of Gliatech.
