Companies Partner to Develop CT Software

Nucletron BV (Veenendaal, The Netherlands) and Exxim Computing Corp. More...
(Pleasanton, CA, USA) have announced a partnership agreement for the development and marketing of cone beam computed tomography (CT) reconstruction software.

Cone beam CT is a groundbreaking new method of acquiring and reconstructing CT images from three-dimensional (3D) isotropic image data utilizing an amorphous silicon detector on a radiotherapy simulator. This novel radiation therapy imaging and validation tool provides the ability to perform traditional, virtual, and CT-assisted simulation all on one device.

Oncentra Cone Beam, the result of this partnership, combines the strengths of both Exxim's state-of-the-art reconstruction tools and Nucletron's Simulix simulator to form a fully integrated solution.

"[This system] will greatly impact radiotherapy simulation as we know it today. To provide two modalities in one device improves the treatment quality and reduces the cost of patient care,” said Rudolf Scholte, president and CEO of Nucletron. "Many cancer centers will not require two separate imaging devices for their treatment planning needs. With Oncentra Cone Beam, clinicians will no longer be forced to adapt patient positioning to conform to the CT scanner, and will appreciate having high quality digital fluoroscopy and volumetric CT acquisition in one optimum simulation solution.”

The system is an effective tool for both pre- and post-treatment planning verification. Once the CT volume is acquired, clinicians can immediately begin virtual simulation with Oncentra Anatomy Modeling for optimum contouring results.
