Incontinence Rivals Settle Patent Litigation

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 22 Feb 2001
Two major competitors in the market for the treatment of incontinence, Boston Scientific Corp. More...
(Natick, MA, USA) and American Medical Systems, Inc. (Minnetonka, MN, USA) have announced a mutually agreeable settlement of patent litigation between them.

Under the terms of the settlement, both companies are cross-licensing patents related to sling procedures and bone anchor devices used by urologists and gynecologists in the surgical treatment of incontinence. The cross-license provides greater choice for doctors and patients. By agreeing to the settlement, both companies avoid further legal costs. Although financial terms were not disclosed, the agreement will not be material to either party's operations nor require ongoing royalties.

American Medical Systems is focused on urologic solutions for obstructions related to prostate disease, male and female incontinence, and erectile dysfunction. Boston Scientific is a global developer and marketer of medical devices used in a range of interventional medical specialties.
