Integrated IT Systems

By HospiMedica staff writers

A comprehensive range of sophisticated information technology (IT) systems integrate and share a patient's medical record across all phases of the patient care cycle, including the patient's home.

Philips Medical Systems' (Best, The Netherlands) IT systems enable patients' medical information to be distributed throughout the hospital, helping healthcare organizations move closer to the reality of electronic health records (EHRs) in the United States. More...

The integration of iSite PACS (picture archiving and communication system) from Stentor (now Philips Global PACS business) with front-end diagnostic systems, and the Philips Xtenity platform provides a comprehensive healthcare IT system. Xtenity enhances communication and data sharing between referring physicians, radiologists, and other members of the healthcare team. They can have access to their patients' health history throughout the enterprise, and anywhere, anytime access with the Xtenity Provider Portal from a PC with a web browser. The portal brings EHRs into the home and allows patients to actively participate in their healthcare decisions. The web-based portal provides a variety of self-service options, giving patients the ability to request appointments, check medications, view lab results, and learn more about their medical conditions.

"One of the big challenges of realizing electronic health records, in the U.S. is the lack of hospital IT systems and medical technologies that communicate with each other and thus share critical patient data,” stated Oran Muduroglu, CEO, Healthcare IT, Philips. " We design and deliver medical solutions with open IT architectures that enable our systems to communicate with other manufacturers' systems to optimize patient care

The Xtenity radiology information system (RIS) provides the radiologist with the correct tools to enhance delivery of patient reports, helping strengthen relationships with referring physicians. Xtenity RIS is available at the desktop with Philips other IT systems.
