Global Heart-Lung Machines Market to Grow at 3.67% CAGR in 2016-2020

The global heart-lung machines market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.67% during the period 2016-2020, driven by the growing preference among hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs) for user-friendly, cost-effective, and safe modular heart-lung machines with features such as rechargeable batteries.

According to a new ReportsnReports (Pune, India) research report, an independent market research firm, the increase in medical tourism to APAC countries is a key driver of the growth in the global heart-lung machines market. More...
Changing lifestyles in the emerging economies, such as China and India, have resulted in a higher prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), leading to increased demand for cardiac surgeries. There is a growing need for improvement in healthcare in the APAC region where healthcare services are becoming more affordable, thus attracting patients from the developed countries such as the UK, Canada, and the US.

In 2015, the ASCs segment accounted for almost 63% of the global heart-lung machines market and was the highest revenue contributor. ASCs include advanced operating equipment, surgeons, skilled staff, and operating and recovery rooms, but without the complex administrative procedures, thereby helping patients save on treatment cost and duration, as well as reducing the burden of hospitals.

Of late, portable heart-lung machines have been gaining traction as they weigh less and occupy less space in operating rooms than conventional heart-lung machines, but are also more expensive. Vendors have made efforts to ease the financial burden on hospitals by developing portable heart-lung machines that are powered by a rechargeable battery and can be transported to any part of the hospital. These next-generation modular heart-machines can be controlled and monitored through a single control panel and allow physicians to provide extracorporeal circulation to patients in the critical stage during an emergency, either in an ambulatory setting or operating the room.

Some of the key players in the global heart-lung machines market are Braile Biomédica (São José do Rio Preto, Brazil), LivaNova (London, UK), MAQUET (Göteborg, Sweden), Medtronic (Dublin, Ireland), Terumo Medical (Tokyo, Japan), Elite Life Care (Gujarat, India), Hemovent (Aachen, Germany), and Tianjin Welcome Medical Equipment (Tianjin, China).
