In a move to expand it film digitizer operations, Howtek, Inc. More...
(Hudson, NH, USA) has agreed to acquire Intelligent Systems Software, Inc. (ISSI, Boca Raton, FL, USA) in an exchange of stock. Howtek designs and manufactures digital image scanners, film digitizers, and related software.

ISSI is developing products for medical image analysis. Its initial product is the MammoReader, a computer-aided detection (CAD) system for breast cancer. A high-resolution medical film digitizer made by Howtek is a component of the MammoReader system. The system has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

ISSI will be merged into a subsidiary of Howtek but will continue operations in Boca Raton. Following the completion of the merger, Howtek's film digitizer operations will be conducted by a wholly owned subsidiary corporation based at the company's current headquarters.

Maha Sallam and Kevinv Woods, ISSI's founders, will join Howtek upon completion of the merger. They and Robert Howard, founder of Howtek, expressed their enthusiasm for the merger by saying "Our visions of technology and improving health care are complementary and more powerful for being united.”
