New Digital Transmission Electron Microscope

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 05 Sep 2000
An advanced completely digital transmission electron microscope (TEM), called the Morgagni 268, promises to answer imaging needs in diagnostic testing, cell biology, and pharmaceutical development. More...
The Morgagni offers film recording with one CCD camera that is interchangeable at two microscope positions and operates with Windows 2000.

As a mainstream diagnostic tool in laboratories, Morgagni is a ready-to-use system that ensures high sample throughput to cope with the need for faster diagnostics. It also allows online consulting or remote diagnosing with colleagues or experts in the field to facilitate a fast and accurate diagnosis.

The Morgagni is optimized for studying ongoing physiologic and pathologic pathways. For retrieval of cell biologic data, it can be set for fast and easy high-quality image acquisition and analysis. The Morgagni's ease of use makes it well-suited to multiuser scientific environments such as universities and institutes.

The new microscope was named after Giovanni Battista Morgagni (1682-1771), a professor of practical medicine in Padua (Italy), who devoted his life to studying normal and pathologic anatomy by the postmortem dissection of patients. The Morgagni, developed by the FEI Company (Eindhoven, The Netherlands), will be marketed under the Philips brand name.
