Global medical device company Arjo (Malmö, Sweden) and Sony Mobile Communications (Tokyo, Japan) have entered into a joint partnership for a unique cloud-based tracking solution that aims to reduce the time spent in locating critical equipment in healthcare environments.

Arjo provides products and solutions for people affected by reduced mobility and age-related health challenges that ensure ergonomic patient handling, personal hygiene, disinfection, diagnostics, and the effective prevention of pressure ulcers and venous thromboembolism. Sony Mobile provides audio, video, game, communications, and key device and information technology products for both the consumer and professional markets.

The new tracking solution will use a Real-Time Location System (RTLS), which enables localization of healthcare facility assets, to help reduce the time spent on searching for critical items or equipment by hospital staff. Both the companies plan to begin implementing the solution at hospitals in the US and the UK during the first half of 2018. The partnership covers the rights to market and sell the real-time tracking solution in selected markets. The partnership allows Arjo to foray into the digitalization of healthcare and benefits Sony Mobile by leveraging on Arjo’s experience of over 60 years in healthcare and its global direct sales network.

“The partnership with Sony Mobile is an important milestone in our digitalization efforts to help our customers improve healthcare efficiency,” said Joacim Lindoff, President and CEO of Arjo. “With this state of the art technology from Sony Mobile, healthcare providers can focus their resources on ensuring the best possible care at a lower cost. We see this as a first step of our partnership with Sony Mobile and we look forward to expanding our cooperation into other areas of digitalization. This would help our customers to improve workflows, which in turn improves clinical outcomes, caregiver safety and ultimately reduces cost of care.”

“Healthcare is one of the new areas where Sony Mobile intends to simplify the everyday life of our customers. We firmly believe that digital transformation is a key factor for making today’s healthcare both safer and more efficient,” said Johan Svenér, VP, IoT Business Group Europe. “This new tracking solution is only one of many smart solutions to come, where we apply our design heritage and digital expertise to new markets and industries, connecting people, things and spaces. The partnership with Arjo is a typical example of how we want to team up with other market leaders to create user-centric smart solutions.”
