Versatile Wrist-Worn Pulse Oximeter Communicates via Bluetooth

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 17 Nov 2010
A new wrist-worn pulse oximeter can store up to 270 hours of oxygen saturation (SpO2) readings at one-second resolution for later analysis by a physician.

The WristOx2 3150 is intended for applications such as cardio-ambulatory monitoring, remote wireless monitoring, and overnight studies. More...
Accordingly, the device is extremely durable in both the home care and ambulatory environments, with an automatic turn on upon finger insertion. The device provides a secure wireless connection for vital information exchange, transmitting recorded readings via Bluetooth to a computer or smartphone, with an extended range of up to 100 meters. Storage of data can be increased up to a maximum of 1,080 hours when used at a four-second storage rate. Proprietary SmartPoint technology determines the quality of the measurements for data analysis using a sophisticated algorithm that provides a fast and accurate snapshot of the patient's SpO2.

The WristOx2 3150 also features performance upgrades such as increased connectivity with both Bluetooth wireless and USB technologies (via an optional transfer cable), enhanced memory, and longer battery life. A power saving feature automatically adjusts transmitted power, based on distance from the main unit. A complementary sensor line called PureLight has been designed for added convenience during spot check and long-term monitoring applications; among the sensors available are the 8000AA-WO2 (clip), 8000S-WO2 (soft), and the 8000J-WO2 (flex) sensors. The sensors eliminate variations in readings from patient-to-patient and from sensor-to-sensor, and they are designed for exclusive use with WristOx2 Model 3150. The WristOx2 3150 is a product of Nonin Medical (Minneapolis, MN, USA).
