New AED for Cardiac Arrest

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 27 Aug 2003
A new version of an automated external defibrillator (AED) designed to be easier to use on cardiac arrest victims yet more technologically advanced is for use by laypeople as well as trained professionals. More...
The defibrillator has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Called Powerheart AED G3, the defibrillator features intuitive voice commands that guide users through the rescue process and offers daily self-testing for the presence and functionality of the pre-connected defibrillation electrodes, the self-contained battery system, and hardware components. The G3 also incorporates patented software that has exhibited 100% sensitivity in detecting life-threatening heart rhythms, while a biphasic shocking engine determines the amount of energy needed to jump-start a victim's heart. The G3 is the product of Cardiac Science, Inc. (Irvine, CA, USA).

"We will begin immediate shipments to end users, distributors, and EOM partners in the United States and around the world, including our newest partner, GE Medical Systems,” said Raymond W. Cohen, president and CEO of Cardiac Science.
