A new high performance analyzer doubles infusion pump test capacity, saving time and delivering productivity improvements through high accuracy flow measurements.

The Rigel Medical (Durham, United Kingdom) Multi-Flo offers fast, accurate, and instantaneous flow measurements, even at low rates, enabling the user to test twice as many infusion devices within the same time period compared with other volumetric-based analyzers. The Multi-Flo is available in single- or multi-channel configuration, allowing simultaneous testing across a range of 10 μL to 1,500 mL per hour. With a sampling rate of 1Hz, the Multi-Flo can accurately detail any variations in flow or pressure, providing a real-time representation of the quality of infusion.

The Multi-Flo also offers faster set-up times and improved data recording, allowing users to cut testing times by up to 50%, providing significant annual cost savings. The easy-to-use, stand-alone analyzer enables manufacturer specific test routines to be programmed and automatically executed, with readings stored automatically in a large internal memory, removing the need for manual recording of data, thus reducing duplication of work and cutting the risk of manual input data errors.

A remote control interface is available via proprietary test solution software (Med-eBase), allowing complete control of the device’s features using a single USB connection per Multi-Flo, increasing the test capacity in high volume environments. Med-eBase software also provides an easy way to create default templates, producing real time and high resolution graphs (including trumpet curves). Due to its database structure, the software builds a complete history of each asset, including functional and electrical safety test results along with user definable visual inspections.

The Multi-Flo also provides accurate back pressure simulations, occlusion alarm monitoring, and bolus (PCA) measurements. A large color screen presents the data in both numerical and graphical format, giving the user the flexibility to monitor acquired volume, flow delivery profiles, pressure changes, and bolus volumes. A dedicated data focus area allows clear viewing of target data from distances exceeding 5 meters, offering flexibility during testing both in the field and in a workshop environment. Customized PDF test certificates can also be included to form a corporate identity on each individual certificate.

“Rigel supplies us with a range of high performance, high quality instruments, which provide the engineers with convenient, versatile, and accurate on-site testing solutions,” said Ian Roberts, managing director of BCAS Biomed (High Wycombe, United Kingdom), a leading independent medical device sales and service company. “Our engineers appreciate the fact that they are compact enough to carry from site-to-site, offering full automation of test procedures and leading to more efficient testing schedules and, ultimately, better standards of customer service and care.”
