A new ultrasound system has been designed for emergency medicine settings and features an education and training module along with the ability the save images directly to an external flash drive.

Accident and emergency services at The Royal Oldham Hospital (Oldham, Lancashire, UK), part of the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS (National Health Service) Trust, are benefitting from the sophisticated point-of-care imaging capabilities of Fujifilm SonoSite’s (Bothell, WA, USA) X-Porte ultrasound system. Rip Gangahar, a consultant in emergency medicine and trauma lead for the Trust, explained, “We have been using SonoSite’s point-of-care ultrasound systems for 10 years, from the Titan through to the latest systems, and were lucky enough to receive the very first X-Porte delivered in the world. Ultrasound is an integral part of our daily practice within the emergency department, and is used in a wide range of cases, from suspected aneurysms or gall stones to fractures and pregnancy complications. The XPorte really is on a whole new level in terms of speed and ease of operation, and the image quality rivals many much larger, more expensive systems. The echocardiogram function is also a step ahead in terms of both image quality and the software.”

SonoSite helped revolutionize portable, point-of-care ultrasound technology, and continues to develop bedside ultrasound systems as well as ultra-high frequency micro-ultrasound technology.

Dr. Gangahar added, “The X-Porte is very intuitive to use, and offers a number of useful features to improve day-to-day operation, such as the education and training module and the ability to save images directly to an external flash drive. It is very easy to wipe down, which is important from an infection control perspective, and this, combined with the portability and robustness that is a trademark of all SonoSite instruments, makes the system ideally suited to an emergency setting.”

Fujifilm SonoSite, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujifilm SonoSite, Inc. (Tokyo, Japan), oversees a direct sales distribution network in the United Kingdom and provides sales and marketing support.
