New York Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC; NY, USA), the largest municipal healthcare organization in the United States, has chosen the Wolters Kluwer Health (WKH; Philadelphia, PA, USA) mobile-enabled clinical decision support app.

The five-year contract will enable HHC to improve patient care by equipping clinicians with unlimited access to comprehensive, evidence-based, clinical decision support through the WKH UpToDate Anywhere app, a mobile access application that was deemed the most suitable to fit with HHC's broad geographic presence, which includes 11 acute care hospitals, five skilled nursing facilities, six large diagnostic and treatment centers, and more than 70 community clinics.

Besides assisting HHC doctors and clinicians to embrace mobile health initiatives and use devices such as iPads, iPhones, and other tablets and smartphones as clinical tools, UpToDate Anywhere can also help them get actionable answers to point-of-care questions. The UpToDate Anywhere app will also help HHC to support broader opportunities for continuing medical education (CME), since whenever providers research clinical questions through UpToDate, they are simultaneously earning CME credits.

“Partnering with HHC to improve clinical decision-making at the point-of-care aligns with our mission of improving the quality and effectiveness of healthcare worldwide,” said Denise Basow, MD, WKH UpToDate vice-president and general manager. “With an institution the size of New York City HHC, UpToDate Anywhere's mobile access becomes essential for ensuring the availability of its clinical content to all clinicians throughout the organization, from central hospitals to clinics in the community.”

HHC is an integrated healthcare delivery system of public hospitals and clinics in New York City (NY, USA), which serves 1.4 million residents with medical and substance abuse services. HHC also has an extensive and diversified psychiatry program that includes 1,227 inpatient beds and 18,071 annual discharges across all of its facilities, with the capacity to care for dual-diagnosed patients with significant comorbidities such as HIV and alcohol and drug addictions.

The UpToDate mobile app was rated as one of 'The Best Apps in Publishing' by EContent Magazine, and is available in iOS, Android, and Windows 8 mobile platforms, as well as via any internet browser.
